Sudanese Sartorialism

My friend is working for an NGO in Sudan, where he took this picture. I'm totally fascinated by this woman's dress, but I can't figure out what the picture on it could possibly mean. Any ideas?

Definitely a woman's face, it took me while to make out the lips. So I guess the big question is...what is that brown thing? A hat? A blindfold? Hair? Very random.

my guess is that it's a hat pulled low. the sleeves look a little 80s American. I had a couple sweaters with huge appliqués of women on them while I was growing up that looked similar.

I agree, think it is a woman with a large hat with the brim pulled low, and a high collar. Very '80s, I think my mom has something similar.

I guess it's a woman face with a dark mask on his eyes, like people do to protect their eyes from sun in very cold countries...it's really pretty but I thought this was a man,and not a woman ^^

I third the hat idea. . .it's quite the dress. . . I wonder what the story is behind it. . . where did it come from? Every item of clothing tells a story. . .

a lot of third world countries get donations from places i.e. salvation army. so that could be how she acquired it. its a really eye-capturing picture though.
cool blog, by the way!
